What is a solicitation?
A solicitation invites collaboration. It is an expression of interest in a specific field or project, meant to attract the cooperation of others. These particular solicitations, however, are as much the expressions of a "preternaturally gifted" (read: "knowingly pretentiousness") artist as it is his interests. These are artful boasts--professional buffoonery + actual dreams--as much as they are open-calls to potential collaborators.
What was the inspiration for these solicitations?
They're loosely modeled on DARPA's solicitation pages. The chalkboard look I attribute in equal parts to Joseph Beuys and Wile E. Coyote.
I would love to collaborate, what should I do?
Please complete the brief form at the end of the applicable solicitation to get the process started. In a few days you'll receive a response, either a declination, a deferral, or a confirmation letter to advance a collaborative dialogue. Please understand that limited time and a metastasizing calendar results in the need to be regretfully selective about how and with whom to collaborate. Also, please note that collaboration is NOT employment. There is an abundance of talent available for hire. These solicitation are aimed at potential collaborators, commissions, and patrons--not employees.
I would like to collaborate but didn't see a solicitation category for "[o]ne of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” What should I do?
